Ingredients
- 1¼ ozVodka
- ¾ ozPeach liqueurA sweet peach liqueur, often sold as peach schnapps.
- 1¼ ozFresh orange juiceFreshly squeezed juice gives the cleanest, brightest flavor.
- 1¼ ozCranberry juiceAdds tartness and the red tint of the drink.
Ice: Ice cubes · Garnish: orange
Method
- Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
- Pour 40 ml vodka, 20 ml peach liqueur, 40 ml fresh orange juice and 40 ml cranberry juice directly into the glass.
- Stir gently to combine the ingredients.
- Garnish with an orange slice.
Tips
- Chill the glass and use plenty of ice: a well-filled glass keeps the drink cold and dilutes it more slowly.
- Some versions replace part of the cranberry juice with pineapple juice or add a splash of black raspberry liqueur. The IBA recipe uses equal parts orange and cranberry juice.
History
Better known under its usual name, Sex on the Beach, this drink dates from the 1980s and is usually linked to the United States, often to Florida, but its exact creator and place of origin are disputed. It belongs to the wave of fruity vodka drinks made with peach liqueur and juices from that period. The IBA lists it among its contemporary classics.
