- sweet
Ingredients
- 1½ ozFresh orange juice
- 1 ozFresh lime juice
- ½ ozAgave syrupDissolves easily in cold juice, unlike granulated sugar.
- 1 pinchSalt (optional)For the outer rim of the glass only.
Ice: No ice · Garnish: lime
Method
- Chill a coupe. If you like a salted rim, rub the outer edge with a lime wedge and dip it lightly in salt.
- Pour the orange juice, lime juice and agave syrup into a shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake hard for 10 to 12 seconds, until the shaker is very cold.
- Strain into the coupe.
- Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim.
This is the alcohol-free version of Margarita.
Tips
- Squeeze the lime juice just before shaking. Bottled juice tastes flatter and makes the drink less lively.
- Salt only the outer edge of the glass, so no salt falls into the drink.
- If you use 1:1 simple syrup instead of agave syrup, start with 20 ml and adjust to taste.
History
The Margarita is a mix of tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice, and its origin is disputed: several bartenders and venues claim it, and none of these stories is confirmed. The alcohol-free version keeps the balance of sour, sweet and salty, replacing the tequila and orange liqueur with citrus juice and agave syrup.
